I woke this morning with the sun shining and had a feeling it was going to be a good day.. I was right! Normally, Wednesday’s are my “hump day” meaning it usually a very long day but once it is over I know the rest of the week and weekend will be less stressful. Today was anything but a hump day and I couldn’t be more excited about all the exciting things happening this month! For my internship, I was assigned to contacted the press of the fabulous designers of London Fashion Week. For three hours, I sent email requests for LFW tickets to names like Twenty8Twelve, Unique, Burberry, Matthew Williamson, McQueen, Mulberry, and most importantly my latest obsession Vivienne Westwood! I know sending emails can be a daunting tasks but with recipients like that I was more than pleased. Not to mention, I was able to sign “Brittany Judy, Press Assistant.” With all the obnoxious emails the designers are getting, I doubt they even read that far down, but you NEVER know right?! As LFW approaches in less than three weeks, the fashion industry is feeling the heat! Everyone in our office is working hard to stay on top of the latest trends and prepare for the big week. I’m so excited and cannot wait to be apart of it.
As for the rest of the day, my International Marketing class took a field trip to the Museum of Brands in Notting Hill. It’s really interesting to see how the simplest of products change from decade to decade. Obviously, I love seeing the evolution of barbies and clothes. Advertising in London is notorious for being the World’s best because (from what I am told) they believe a person trying to sell something to you is a non-respected job but that’s where advertising comes in. If this is true, advertisements must grab consumers attention. Let me tell you, it’s working! If you live in London, take a look around and you will notice how effective most advertisement really is here.
On my way to Notting Hill, I walked along Portobello Rd. where every Saturday there is a market and lots of yummy food. Since it is a Wednesday only a few shops and restaurants were open but it was still really neat to explore. I loved all the individual boutiques and shops because they carry such cool things you won’t find anywhere else. Not to mention, everything is fairly priced. I think this is a MUST see in London and plan to go back on a Saturday when things are booming. One thing I recommend, everyone must go to Wafflemeister’s and get a Belgium Waffle! It’s warm, yummy, and unlike any waffle I have ever had! It’s also a great place for menswear, there are super trendy shops that carry clothes for the both preppy and hipster look. Although I did not see the market in it’s prime (yet) I rate this the TOP MUST SEE market in London. The Notting hill area has such cute character and it makes me think of Julia Roberts and the adorable Hugh Grant.
