This weekend has been full of exciting events and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect it. Spring is starting to make it’s way through the rain clouds and overcast. It’s time to ditch the wool coats and put on a light trench and flats. Pat came for the weekend and stayed until early this morning. I swear the British Border patrol are even worse than America. They ask me why I’m here, what I’m doing, where I’m interning, what school I go to, what books I read (just kidding but I can see it happening), and how long I’m staying in the UK. Strange enough all of this information is clearly printed on my $400 visa and $200 passport but what ever I understand the immigration process. I just wish it was a little quicker sometimes! In the meantime, I did the only thing there is to do in the airport other than eat over priced snacks and buy a magazine that adds 5 lbs to your already overweight purse, so I people watched! Here is my theory: there are the people who know exactly what they are doing when they travel such as wearing the appropriate outfit, packing with plastic bags, and simply being aware of their surroundings. On the opposite spectrum, there are people who act like an airport is foreign territory to them. It’s like their mind just goes blank and they have no perception of directions or about the airport routine. This is the same when riding the tube, either you get it or you just don’t at all.
Anyway, after leaving Heathrow we got settled we went to my new favorite area, Carnaby Street for dinner and then headed to Ealing Broadway to meet my room mates for a night out on the town. I thought it was a good idea to wear my new heels to the club but that turned out to be a painful disaster. Word of advice ladies, break them in first – especially those from Primark!
The following day we decided to walk along the Thames River from the Covent Garden area. We stumbled upon the Wharf area which has seafood restaurants and little shops that are great for souvenirs. After stopping to shop, we made our way to the London Bridge which is right near the Borough Market that everyone raves about having the best food. I agree with them, it’s so delicious! To get there, cross the London bridge towards the south side and then follow the crowds. After squeezing through tiny cracks between buildings, you will most likely end up smelling the market ahead. I recommend avoiding lunch time unless you are not in a hurry to see other things because when it comes to food, Londoners don’t mess around! They will wait in line for hours just for a beef sandwich with apple sauce. Luckily, so will Pat! I found a stand that sold Vietnamese chicken curry and ate practically every bite- this never happens!
Sunday was so beautiful in the city and it made for a perfect way to end the weekend. We went to see Disney’s the Lion King Musical and it was incredible! The costumes and performance were out of this world. I love plays and think it’s a quintessential Sunday past time.
While walking all over the city I kept an eye out for London’s easter egg hunt and found a bunch!
