Yesterday, I went back to the street vendors and managed to find myself a pair of regular jeans for $15, so now I can have a pair of pants to wear at my internship site that I don’t care too much about. Plus the jeans I managed to find are regular bell bottoms and not skinny jeans, since it appears like that is pretty much all you can buy here. Skinny jeans and more skinny jeans. I also started the process of hand washing my clothes, since in Chile if you do not have a washer and dryer in your house/apartment you have to bring your clothes to a washer (basically you drop them off and pick them up the next day…so that person washes your clothes for you). I don’t really like this idea since I have some nice clothes (and I tend to be pretty anal about how they are washed…) So, I am scared that some of my clothes would get ruined. Plus, it is pretty expensive to bring your clothes in to get washed (for a little less than 1/2 a load it cost me $6) So, hand washing it is!
Also, last night for my birthday I went out with Ryan, Kenya and Mari to a random bar we found called Top Top. We couldn’t figure out how to get up to the bar (it was above a restaurant) so an employee showed us and you had to walk through the restaurant’s kitchen to find the stairs, which was a little weird. Everyone smokes here, so that kind of sucks (if you don’t smoke anyways). So, everyone was smoking around us and people are always smoking in the streets and in the restaurants. Big change from MN where you can’t smoke in bars, restaurants, etc. I ordered a Mango Sour, which was probably one of the grossest drinks I have ever had (but, now I know, Mango Sours=gross). It had peach syrup (I’m pretty sure it wasn’t mango) and then I think pisco. Yuck. Then, I was talking (I really like my hand gestures..) and I managed to spill half my drink on Ryan! I felt so bad. From now on when I am talking anywhere near something that could spill I am just going to sit on my hands. But, it was still a fun night, last day of birthday celebrations. Not sure what my plans are for today, maybe go out to eat or do some more wandering! Tomorrow, if it is nice I think that I am going to walk to Reñaca.
