London Adventures – April 17

Happy Monday, everyone!

I’m currently sitting in class watching the film, “American Honey”, and ironically enough I can’t get over the fact that at the end of this week I will be back in the States and back with all my friends and family from back home. Don’t ask me how the time went so fast, because honestly I have no idea either, but if you figure it out, let me know…

I have 5 more days left of my adventure and I have so many things that I’m going to miss about this place that has been my home for the last few months. Some of them include…

  • the never ending list of things to do
  • the markets that are FULL of amazing food
  • the incredible live music that you can find literally anywhere in London
  • the coffee shops that are perfect for studying, reading a book, or just to drink coffee
  • the parks… they have been my favorite thing about this trip
  • the simplicity that comes with such a big and unfamiliar place
  • pasties… aka a big puff pastry filled with steak and potatoes… yup

That being said, there are some things that I’m not going to miss about this place…

  • the constant smell of cigarette smoke that fills my nose everywhere I go
  • the bed in my apartment… I’m ready for my comfy queen bed
  • having to buy groceries every other day because food goes bad faster here
  • the lack of iced coffee that is here
  • the peanut butter… you would think that it’s all the same… it’s not
  • public transportation… I miss driving a lot more than I thought I was going to
  • THE TIME DIFFERENCE

Much to some of your dismays, I will not be returning home with a British accent… and for that, I apologize. I know a lot of you are thoroughly disappointed in that… That being said, there is a good chance I will be coming home with some new vocabulary, and for that, I also apologize in case you don’t understand what I’m saying.

This weekend we tried to do the things that we hadn’t done yet/the things we wanted to do one last time. We went to Abbey Road, the market, and wandered up and down Oxford street. Abbey Road was crazy to go to. Knowing that so many musical legends have created and recorded music there made it so cool to see. (We also made our marks on the wall… see the picture below) Yesterday we had our first and only Sunday roast that was basically a 7 course meal. I don’t think I’ll have to eat again for a while seeing as though I’m still full 12+ hours later…

A big thank you goes out to all of you who have been reading these posts all semester and for those of you who have been so loving and supportive of me since being here. The kind messages you’ve sent me and comments you’ve left on my posts have meant the world to me, and I’m genuinely so humbled by the love I’ve been feeling from all of you.

More than anything though, I cannot begin to explain how thankful I am for my parents and all of the support they’ve given me, financially, lovingly, and emotionally this semester. They’ve been there (via technology) through the good and bad times I’ve had here. When something fun and exciting happened, they were the first ones I wanted to call and talk to about it. When something was stressing me out and I didn’t know how to handle it, they always had the advice I needed to hear. I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to repay them for making my dreams come true this semester.

To my loving brother, Tyler, who completely took over my bedroom since being gone, mom called me yesterday and told me you finally cleaned it and put it back to the way it was. For that, I thank you, and now I can finally say I also can’t wait to see you, because as you probably know, I wasn’t going to tell you that knowing that my room had been taken over by your nearly 17 year old self…

Tomorrow I turn 21 and once again, don’t ask me where the time went because I have no idea…

I have 2 exams, souvenir shopping, and a lot of packing standing in the way of me and the plane ride home on Saturday. Although I’m going to miss this place incredibly, I cannot wait to see my family, friends, and dogs in 5 short days.

Well, my coffee is getting cold and my breakfast needs to be eaten, so I should probably pay attention to those things… oh, and to the class that I’m currently sitting in…

I’ll see you all soon, but until next time,

Cheers, ya’ll.
