Hey Now, Hey Now: When in Rome

After our tour of the Amalfi Coast our group headed back to Rome. Kimmie and I only had one full day in Rome so we were going to make the most of it! We spent the first night celebrating Allison’s birthday. We ended up in this quirky little Italian restaurant where the waiters constantly wanted to take pictures with us, and gave us free limocello to celebrate. We had a fun time joking around with everyone and ended the night with gelato and the live band playing at our hostel. […]

Touring the Amalfi Coast

For those of you who don’t know, I’m back in the good ole U S of A. However, I figured I should fill you all in on my last couple of weeks of the semester and traveling! To start my last break  (as if the 20 day break wasn’t enough!!) a few friends and I went to the Amalfi Coast of Italy. We decided to do this lag of the trip with a tour group who specializes in weekend tours for American college kids studying abroad, and we weren’t the only […]

Paris Part Deux

Hi everyone! Sorry my blogs lately have been pretty much nonexistent. I’ve had finals the last few weeks so I’ve been focusing on that. One good thing about the finals here is that they’re pretty easy; compared to the work load I have back in the states this is pretty much nothing. Even the final for my integrated class was incredibly simple: 30 multiple choice questions. That’s it. For my discussion portion the foreign students wrote a four page paper about one of the movies we talked about in class. […]

Minding the Gap in London

So by the time we get to London Daryl and I were exhausted. I know, I have no right to complain; this is the opportunity of a lifetime! However, by the time we had reached London we were mentally, physically, and fiscally (I’m not sure if this is a thing) exhausted. We also happened to have pick THE most expensive city to end our trip. This being said, the first meal we had was McDonalds. To make this story even sadder, we used a coupon. At Mcdonalds. Definitely a low […]

Comfort Food and Harry Potter in Edinburgh

Bonjour à Tous! I’ve had a lot of fun adjusting back to normal human being life (not really). So, I decided to put off planning my schedule for next Fall because A) I don’t want to think about the fact that I will one day not be living here and B) It’s a lot of work. Instead I am going to continue writing about my three week European adventure!! Yay! After Paris Daryl and I parted ways with Emily and headed off to land of haggis and kilts. Actually, kilts […]

Paris je t’aime

“A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, love, and in the point of life.” -Thomas Jefferson Ahhh Paris. I do not have enough good things to say about Paris. It’s the reason I fell in love with the French culture and language. My visit to Paris in high school is the reason I decided to double major in French, and it is the reason I knew I wanted to spend a semester abroad. Much to my dismay, a lot of the pure excitement of traveling and being in […]

Canals and Museums in Amsterdam

Hello all! Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything, but WIFI was getting increasingly difficult to find, and I really hated trying to type on my phone. Anyway, I’m back in France! It’s been an amazing and exhausting three weeks of travel! I am excited to share my stories with you guys. After Brussels we took a train to Amsterdam. We arrived in Amsterdam around midnight which was a super interesting time to try and navigate around a foreign city. However, every time we got lost I was always […]

Chocolate & Waffles in Brussels

After Geneva we took an airplane to Brussels! The flights we’ve been taking are of the super cheap variety, and so we are only allowed one small carry on. As a result, I am traveling with only a medium sized backpack. That has been one of the hardest parts of this trip. I hate not being able to diffuse my hair or having to wear the same outfits all the time, but it makes traveling much easier. Anyway, let me talk about Brussels! What an amazing city. The entire city […]

Snowshoeing in Geneva

To start off our glorious 20 day vacation my friends and I headed to Geneva. Switzerland! So, my friend Emily has a family friend, Leila, who lives in the French countryside right outside of Geneva. We were so incredibly lucky to be able to stay with Leila! We stayed in her adorable country home and had delicious home cooked meals every night! On Sunday, Leila’s brother took us up to the Jura mountains to go snowshoeing! I’m not going to lie, it was completely exhausting, and I thought I was […]

Day Trippin to Arles

Arles is only an hour train ride from Montpellier, so I figured why not take a look! We arrived at 10:00 AM and headed towards to the outdoor market in the center of town. The market was absolutely amazing! There were all different types of regional foods and produce to buy. With such a tantalizing mixture of wonderful sights and smells, it was hard for me to choose only a few things to buy!! We all bought our lunches at the market and had a picnic in the park. There […]

Turning 21 in Montpellier

Hello all! So last Thursday was my 21st birthday! If I’m being completely honest, turning 21 in France was one of the things I was kind of disappointed about. My thought process was ‘even as amazing and awesome as it is to be in France, it’s not going to be the same as celebrating my birthday in Dinkytown!’ All I could focus on was not being able to go to The Library and Blarney’s with all my friends; we had been waiting for this moment since Freshman year, and now […]

Bouillabaisse in Marseille

After a busy couple of a days I’m finally getting around to writing a blog post! Last Friday was Valentines Day, so some friends and I decided to do dinner and a movie. We headed down to Odysseum which is this super American-esque shopping, eating, and entertainment center on the outskirts of Montpellier. The restaurants here are HUGE even compared to American standards, and the whole place has this very Disneyland feel, which I don’t hate. We saw a rendition of La Belle et La Bête or Beauty and the […]

Wine Tasting in Bordeaux

“Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy.” -Benjamin Franklin Hello all! So this weekend I visited Bordeaux! Although Bordeaux is synonymous with wine, there were a lot of other cool things to see and do in the city. After a rough start we made it to our hotel in downtown Bordeaux. Now, to get a reasonably priced hotel in downtown there are bound to be some drawbacks; this time around, the drawbacks included a room which, based on the smell alone, definitely had […]

Le Dîner

Two blogs in two days, I’m on a roll!! So I just had such an awesome dinner, and I know some of you are curious as to what delicious French cuisine I get to eat every night, so here is a post about what I ate for dinner! I know sounds exciting, right? Tonight we had le raclette. This is a very traditional meal in the French alps; they have been eating it for centuries in the area. Today, it is still common to eat le raclette when skiing in […]

Mon Weekend

Bonjour tout le monde! It’s CRAZY to think I’ve been in Montpellier for a month! I feel so at home here, and I have really gotten into a good routine. One thing that I am appreciating here is having a lot of classes with the people from my program. I don’t usually get to have multiple classes with the same people back at the U, but here it has been a great way to make friends in a short amount of time. Overall, classes have been going pretty smoothly, but […]
