My Time Coming to an End

Trip to the molinas On friday, i went to the windmills from the book, don quijote. It was a really fun and relaxing walk. I’m really glad that leandra, megan and i were finally able to see them. Saying goodbye before finals i had to say goodbye to the people i worked with at my internship. After finals, we had a graduation ceremony with my host sister, carolina and my host mother. During the day, i finished my packing, and i had a little buddy hanging out with me (the […]

THURSDAY-SUNDAY Thursday night to Friday morning, I stayed at the airport after taking the bus. Since the counter didn’t open until 4:30, I stayed up skyping my family and watching netflix to keep me awake. Friday, I took the taxi from the airport to the hostel where I waited for Mack and Emily to show up from London. That day we tried to make it to Versailles, come to find out that we can’t make it anywhere without credit cards under the pin and chip system. That evening we made […]

Italy

Friday-pisa/florence The leaning tower was the main focus of pisa, but it was hilarious to watch the tourist take photos. That night we went to the piazzale michelangelo, it was an incredible view of the city and it was really cool to see the david statue in real life. Saturday-Florence/Rome Saturday consisted of walking around florence then traveling to rome and walking around there. Sunday-rome/pisa The most eventful day was sunday when we were in rome. The best idea we had all day was taking the hop-on, hop-off tour bus. […]

Mom’s Visit

Thursday After leaving for the airport at 8am, public transportation took over 2 hours to get to the airport. Once i was there i waiting for a while then decided to check baggage claim and see if she was there. She was, but there had been a mishap between new york and madrid, so she would be without her suitcase until the weekend. After that, we went to dinner at one of my favorite places in toledo then to my host family’s house to pick up some clothes for the […]

Austria for Fall Break

Thursday We caught the last bus to madrid to sleep at the airport until our flight to frankfurt, germany then to vienna, austria, which were both delayed. Friday We arrived in vienna, austria to take a bus to get to a train to take to salzburg, austria. On the train, we met an austrian that spoke english without us realizing! We typed a question into google translate and he responded in english, sparking a conversation! That evening (after all of our traveling) we went to a, kind of, hole in […]

Weekend in San Sebastián

Although it was not easy waking up at 3:45 to catch a 4:30 taxi for a 5:15 bus to take the metro for 45 minutes to catch an 8am train (which ended up being the wrong one so we exchanged tickets for the 9am), it was totally worth it! Friday, once on the train, we were surrounded by beautiful scenery! We met hannah, a girl from germany staying in the hostel with us who’s english was incredible. We also walked around in the city and found some great ice cream […]

The Place Where the Tourists Take Photos

Today, megan, leanra, roberto and i went to the outside of toledo to take pictures for leandra and roberto’s engagement as well as a couple for me because i missed the photo-op the first couple days when i was late. It was a long walk/taxi ride, but it was a good time regardless. I got to hear the incredibly adorable story about how they met and how much they love each other. They care about each other so much and they work so hard to keep their long distance relationship […]

Flamenco/Sevillana Classes

Both last night and tonight, three women came to la fund to teach us flamenco choreography. It was a blast! The first night there were probably 30 students and the second night there were probably 13, but both nights it was really fun. The first night we learned 3 sections and the second night we learned the fourth section. The second night, the mother of one of the instructors watched us and clapped for us. Tonight, she came up to my partner and i and told us that she really […]

Wandering Around Toledo & The Bus System

Today, leandra and I decided we were going to have a photo shoot around toledo. We got all dolled up to take pictures and no more than 10 minutes into it, it started raining, then it poured! (with no rain on the radar) instead of being disappointed about the temperamental weather, we decided to make the most of it; we took pictures in the rain! While trying to make our way to the bridge, we came across a couple of brazilian guys who were really nice! We talked to them […]

Lost for Work and Jazz Festival

Each day i have my internship, i’ve been trying to find the most time efficient way to get there. Today was an interesting excursion. I ended up taking a right when i should’ve taken a right … twice. I ended up making a semi circle around the city rather than going straight to the courts. In the end, i found some beautiful churches and views plus i was still on time even though i went 25 minutes out of the way! Since we don’t have class on fridays, megan, leandra […]

Excursion to Madrid

Today was the first of 3 excursions with la fund. We took an hour long bus ride to and from madrid. We went on a guided tour of the palace, had a bus tour of the city, ate lunch at a buffet, then had 3 hours of free time to look around the city. Leandra and I wandered around the city, going from store to store checking out souvenirs and accessories. There were only a couple things that really stuck out for me: there were a ton of scarves and […]

Day 1 of Internship

Today, I thought I would make it to my internship on time if I caught the bus by 8:30. Boy was I wrong. I was about 10 minutes late to my first day of work. Good thing this isn’t the united states! I worked with a lady that works in the library and, to my surprise, I won’t even really be talking to people. I’m translating a bunch of things both from spanish to english and english to spanish. Don’t get me wrong, it was very uplifting to hear her […]

Day Two of Classes

Today I went to my grammar class which I am super excited about because I think it will help tremendously! I haven’t taken a grammar heavy class since high school, so I have a hard time with choosing which way to conjugate and how to do so. I bought my books today and they were only 33€!!! That’s like 40$ for all the books I need. I’m used to paying that for 1/2 of a book in the US! I had some extra time after that so Mara, LeAndra and […]

First Day of Classes

Today we had our first day of classes, and I rode the bus for the first time. I had a hard time understanding my first professor because he spoke very quickly. My second class of the day was canceled, so I was able to siesta (nap). I was able to meet the woman I will be working for these next few months at las cortes de castilla – la mancha. The walk is pretty easy and had a breathtaking view that i will have to take pictures of later, but […]
